What is the 2014 Infiniti QX50?
Looking like it could be a large hatchback car, or a newer version of a station wagon, the 2014 Infiniti QX50 actually enters into the small SUV class of vehicles and is really a very capable competitor. Any car shopper who needs a vehicle with SUV capabilities but desires the drive and feel of a luxury car should consider the QX50 as it delivers with abundance. As an award winner for Kelley Blue Book’s 2014 Best Resale Value Award, the QX50 will not only please the owner while they have the vehicle, but also bring one of the best resale values by holding its value strong.
The QX50 rides like a dream and handles just as well by dispelling any road hazard with the well-tuned suspension and the quick responsiveness of the on-center feeling steering allows the QX50 to be tops in the class for handling performance. With the stout power from the engine compartment this SUV is fun to drive with its quick acceleration, great passing capabilities, and phenomenal steering and suspension.
Filling the engine compartment is a 3.7-liter V6 engine bringing in 325 horsepower and 267 lb.-ft. of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission is matched with this engine offering a fuel mileage of 17 city/25 hwy mpg for the rear-wheel drive version and 17 city/24 hwy mpg for the all-wheel drive.
Because of only a small change in fuel mileage, the wise choice here would be to opt for the all-wheel drive version if the budget allows. The transmission is actually equipped with a manual shift option allowing the driver to do the shifting, but when downshifting is needed the car intuitively matches the correct RPM to the downshifting for a smoother transition.
Offering signature Infiniti stylings inside the cabin the driver and passengers will feel as if they have signed up for a first class seat on their ride. With the richness of leather throughout the cabin, advanced electronics across the dashboard, and a multitude of accents in all the right places, the interior of the QX50 offers all inside a smooth and comfortable luxury ride. The only area the QX50 falls short is on cargo space behind the rear seat with a much smaller space than others in the class.
The outside of the QX50 reminds onlookers it is an Infiniti with sleek curves, a lack of sharp lines, luxury stylings with chrome accents all around, and a swooping roof line to impress the masses. Wrap around headlights and taillights also show off to create a visual impression of impressive engineering and stylings. While the overall vehicle size would signify a station wagon, adding standard 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels and optional 19- inch versions bring the QX50 up off the ground to ensure it is not mistaken for a wagon, but stands out as a great small SUV. Optional chrome tipped exhaust outlets and a rear spoiler can add a lot of sportiness to the overall look of the QX50 allowing for an even more unique look and feel.
What is expected as standard features for an Infiniti; how about leather seating, keyless entry and start, an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rearview camera, a seven-inch color display, and Sirius XM Satellite Radio and a USB port. Moving up to the Journey trim a power moon roof, Bluetooth connectivity, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel and heated front seats are all added as standard features. All trim models enjoy the safety of six airbags and a full array of electronic active safety assistants.
Optional features on the QX50 like so many other vehicles are bundled into packages and a few of these options include a Lane Departure Prevention System, Intelligent Cruise Control both part of the technology Package, 360 degree Around View Monitor, an eleven-speaker Bose premium audio system, navigation system are all part of the Premium Package, an eight-way power passenger seat, driver’s seat power lumbar support, reverse tilt-down outside mirrors, 19- inch wheels, adaptive HID headlights and power-folding rear seats are all part of the Touring Package. All these packages are available on the Journey model, which is the highest trim model of the QX50.
At the base model, with all the excellent standard features and luxurious feel the QX50 slides in at a very reasonable $35,000 and doesn’t rise up much for a nicely equipped Journey model coming in around $38,000. The fully loaded version can reach up past $45,000 but overall for a luxury SUV, even one in the small class, this is a fantastic price especially when the Infiniti logo is attached.
Overall the 2014 Infiniti QX50 is a great small SUV at a real value coming out of a luxury auto maker. The QX50 offers a bevy of luxury stylings, comfortable designs, fantastic controls, and a real presence on the road. With such a reasonable price anyone who is not in the need of a large SUV should take a real hard look at the QX50 for some great creature comforts, improved handling, and luxury style while still fulfilling the needs of an SUV.
